What is the difference between microblading and powder brows?

Microblading - naturalistic strokes or scars until the end of your life?🤭

Microblading is a technique performed with a hand tool with a blade for creating hair-look cuts on the skin. If done correctly, microblading should never leave a scar. It is an excellent technique if done by a qualified master; with it, microblading works perfectly for normal&dry skin, the strokes might heal blurry on active or oily skin or/and skin with large pores.

Also, sometimes microblading doesn't fit ones in their golden ages, because as we're getting older, our skin turns to be more sensitive and thin.

"Powder brows", "ombre brows", "shading brows", “cosmetic permanent tattooing”, “eyebrow powdering” are the names of one technique called shading or microshading. The work performed using a machine and the needle instead of a hand tool. So, it is a skin perforation with a needle instead of cuts.

Having in mind all these generalizations, I decided to pick up a gentle European permanent makeup technique, microshading, that:

✔️fits every type of skin and all ages,

✔️lasts longer (~1.5-2 yrs),

✔️heals faster,

✔️no scars.

Makeup is an embellishment, not a trauma.

How long does the microshading live on the skin? ⠀

Approximately:

⏳on eyebrows and lips for 1.5-2 years,

⏳on eyelids up to 3-5 years

How long microshading will last on your face depends on individual factors:

⚜ Skin type. On oily skin type, the pigment lasts less time.

⚜ UV exposure. The more often you are on the exposed sun, the faster the color pigment is destroyed.

⚜ Activities routine. The more hikes, gym, and another activity routine you have on an everyday basis, the less the pigment will stay in the skin

⚜ Age. The younger you are, the more often you have to update your makeup; it is due to accelerated metabolism in the body.

⚜ Immunity. A robust immune system quickly destroys the pigment.

⚜ Beauty routine (scrubs&acids&peelings). Cosmetic procedures are aimed at enhancing regeneration as a result of which the color pigment is eliminated more quickly.

⚜Color. The brighter the dye, the longer it will last.

I had my eyeliner/brows/lips done 10-15-20 years ago, and I am thrilled. It faded, and I want to refresh it. Will your work last for another 15 years?

No. I'm a pretty conservative artist and can confirm 1.5-2 years of life for brows or lips and 2-2.5 years for eyeliners before it starts to fade, though in most cases, my works last more than that. I may assume that inks that were used 15 years ago were tattoo inks; that's why they stay so long; inks that are used now are a little less 'sticky' and last 2yrs+. The permanent makeup industry has developed since then, and now the lighter natural application is what artists are striving for. Natural application means a less radiant/dark look and fewer inks. Since the inks are also a little diluted compared to tattoo inks, it gives us less time than 15 years in the skin. Now permanent makeup is considered a process that you need to renew from time to time.

Can I come over to you for my yearly touch up if my brows/lips/eyes were done by another artist?

Lets figure out the definitions first!

Touch ups - is a service that happens in a month after the initial session;

Color boost/yearly refresh - is a service that might be offered to you by your initial artist sometime in between 3 to 18 months after the initial session.

If you are out of this time frame and/or going to another artist, it will be a new service in 99% of the beauty salons.

So I would love to work with you, but you need to be ready for the New Service / New client prices.

What about the sterility?

Clients’ safety and satisfaction is my priority. There should be no difference in the sterility level between a medical office and a permanent makeup suite. I am obsessed with purity and sterility, so here are the things you will see in my suite:

  • The working surfaces and tools are covered with plastic film.

  • All the consumables are either disposable or being desinfected&sterilized.

  • Each client gets a disposable hair cap; the couch is covered with a medical sheet and disposable head bib.

  • I work in a clean medical uniform, using disposable pink nitrile gloves and a face mask.

  • Needless to say about the disposable sterile needles.

  • The risks of carrying any infections are eliminated; you can be assured of your health!

Where is the result?

Some of my clients are getting back to me with concerns about the result after the first initial session. 'Powder brows or lips are gone!', 'There is no color left', 'Brows are not even', 'Lips are patchy', etc.

All these concerns are valid; the first initial procedure is a test run; I make a pretty standard session to observe how the pigment will behave in the client's skin in a month. Since I believe in naturalness, I'm sure it is better to put a standard amount (or less) color during the first session and add more during the second one. So we will add more during the second session; this is an exact reason why the touch-up is included in the price.

I know how to make sharpie brows or ones, which will stay with you for 5+years; it is not my goal. European style brows should last for 1.5-2 years at it's maximum, ie, all my works designed to be light and airy.

I want my clients to be happy with the results.
