How long does permanent makeup last?
Permanent makeup gradually softens over time, but everyone’s skin holds pigment differently.
In my experience, powder brows and lip blush often benefit from a refresh after approximately 1–2 years, while permanent eyeliner may remain visible for 3–5 years or longer. These are general guidelines, not expiration dates or guaranteed results.
The point when you want a refresh may come well before the pigment disappears. Some pigment can remain visible for many years.
If you still love your color and shape, you don’t need to add more pigment simply because a year has passed.
What affects how quickly permanent makeup fades?
Your results depend on a combination of factors, including:
Skin characteristics and healing: Different skin types retain pigment differently.
Sun exposure: UV exposure can fade tattoo pigments over time.
Pigment and technique: The color, amount of pigment, and how it was implanted affect the long-term appearance.
Skincare and cosmetic treatments: Let your provider know about your permanent makeup before treatments near the area, including peels, resurfacing, and lasers.
Your starting point: A soft, sheer result may look ready for a refresh sooner than a more saturated result.
Once the area is fully healed, protect it from sun exposure with appropriate sun protection. Avoid picking or repeatedly irritating the treated skin.
When should I book a Color Boost?
A Color Boost is a one-session appointment to refresh faded color within your existing permanent makeup shape.
It’s a good option when you still like the shape, but your brows, lips, or eyeliner have become lighter than you prefer.

Color Boost: 3–18 months after your last touch-up
Price: 50% of my current new-service price for the same area.
This option is for returning clients refreshing color within the existing shape. It includes one session.
Color Boost: 18–30 months (1.5-2.5 years) after your last touch-up
Price: 50% of my current new-service price for the same area, plus $100.
This option is available when your existing permanent makeup is suitable for a one-session refresh.
On the booking page, choose “Existing clients, 1.5–2.5 years after the last touch-up.”
Returning after more than 30 months or/and needing the full process again
If it has been more than 30 months, or we need the full procedure and two-session process again, you receive 10% off my current new-service price as a returning client. Email me at youarebeautiful@permanentjoyseattle.com to receive the code to proceed with the booking.
Even if I last saw you five, six, or seven years ago, I’m happy to welcome you back!
All maintenance windows are measured from your last touch-up. Your appointment must take place within the applicable window. Color Boost eligibility also depends on the condition of your existing permanent makeup - not only the time elapsed.
How to book your permanent makeup refresh

Will I receive a reminder?
I send an automatic reminder approximately 12 months after your last touch-up.
This is the only automatic maintenance reminder. My system won’t send another one after 365 days after the last service.
If you’re happy with your results when that email arrives, set your own calendar reminder for later. Allow enough time to schedule and complete your appointment before the pricing window ends.
What if I need a small adjustment after my color boost?
Once the area has healed, contact me within 6 weeks of your touch-up if you notice a small area that needs additional color.
An additional adjustment session is available for a $100 supply fee per area - brows, lips, or eyeliner.

This offer does not apply to a third session for deep-toned lips. Please contact me to discuss the appropriate next step.
Do I need a permanent makeup touch-up every year?
No. Maintenance should depend on how your permanent makeup looks and what you want - not a fixed yearly schedule. If the color and shape still look good to you, you can wait.
Does a Color Boost include two sessions?
No. A Color Boost includes one session. If your permanent makeup needs the full two-session process again, book a new service with your returning-client discount.
Can a Color Boost change my brow, lip, or eyeliner shape?
Color Boost pricing covers refreshing the existing shape. If you want a different shape, a substantial change, or corrective work, please, book a new service with your returning-client discount.
Can I let my permanent makeup fade instead?
Absolutely. You can choose to maintain the color, refresh it less often, or stop adding pigment.
Keep in mind that fading does not guarantee complete disappearance. Some pigment may remain visible long-term.
What if another artist did my permanent makeup?
The returning-client offers on this page are for clients whose existing work was done by me. If another artist performed your procedure, please email photos before booking so I can assess your existing pigment and recommend a service, be prepared to become a new customer needing two sessions service.
